Easy to read miniature message displays for receptions, exhibitions and product advertising.

The ideal product for locating on office or reception desks, exhibition display panels, leaflet holders and product dispensers to get your message across to customers or visitors. These compact, eye catching bright VFD displays feature an attractive ‘D’ shaped curved enclosure suitable for fixing to any flat surface using double sided adhesive pads and can be plugged into the USB port of any PC or a suitable USB charger.
Users can edit the internal messages using the compact IR keyboard or a PC text editor and ‘print’ to the display. The display automatically installs itself on a PC as a Generic Text printer which the user can ‘share’ on a network so that many people can edit the contents remotely. The 8000 character memory can be divided into multiple messages of varying length with functionality including scroll left, right, up and down, flash, dissolve, run slow, run fast, delay run and orientation commands for mounting the display vertically or horizontally.
Messages are retained when the power is removed with the user defining which message is active when the power is re-applied. The keyboard can be used to switch between other programmed
messages in the display memory. The displays are supplied with a 2 metre cable and can accept
further extension cables up to 4 metres.

USB DISPLAY OPERATION - EGU21USB / EGU42USB
Plug the display’s USB connector into a USB socket on a PC or a USB power adaptor and the display will show the communication mode and password for 3 seconds then it will show the start-up message. If you press ESC on the IR keyboard within 3 seconds of power applied,  you can enter a new password using 2 characters from 00 to 99 and AA to ZZ. Press ESC once the password is defined and the display will show the ‘start up’ message. If you are using a Notebook or USB hub, the power may be limited by other USB devices connected or limitations of the PC system.

When you plug the display into a PC for the first time, it will automatically set-up USB communication using internal Windows drivers as indicated by a series of ‘pop up’ messages on the PC screen. After 30 seconds, a new printer will have been added to your PC’s Printers and Faxes menu called ‘Generic Text’ which you can rename to ‘Slim Display’ as well as ‘Share’ it on your network so that other network users can program it remotely to show visitor names, expected waiting times or special offers for products and services or send ‘real time’ alert messages.

To prevent USB communication you can press CTRL ALT SHIFT 0 on the IR keyboard and re-enable the USB with CTRL ALT SHIFT 3.

The message area inside the display is divided into 4 folders with each folder capable of holding up to 256 message sequences. Press 1, 2, 3 or 4 on the IR keyboard to select the folder then use the ◄ ►▲▼ arrows to find and play a specific message sequence. When the display is un-plugged from the PC or power adaptor, the last selected message will appear the next time the display is used.

EDIT MESSAGES using the IR KEYBOARD - KBC56A
Use the IR keyboard to select the folder where messages are required to be edited then press ESC then the 2 character password if this is being used.  When entering edit mode the cursor will be placed at the beginning of the message that was being displayed before edit mode was
selected. The following keys can be used to navigate the messages:

◄ Left Move the cursor left by one character
► Right Move the cursor right by one character
▲Up Advance left by one display width
▼Down Advance right by one display width
Shift HME Jump to beginning of first message in folder
Shift END Jump to beginning of last message in folder
Del Delete the character at the cursor and scroll later characters back one
Ins Toggle insert mode and overwrite mode
Esc Exit edit mode and start running message

To clear the contents of the current folder press CTRL ALT SHIFT DEL. When a prompt appears, press Y to confirm or N to cancel. The contents of the other 3 folders are unaffected. To enter a CAPITAL letter (or RED character on the IR keyboard) press the Shift key followed by the required key. Caps lock can be enabled by pressing the CTRL key followed by the SHIFT key and is cancelled by pressing the CTRL key.

The cursor will change appearance depending on the state of Caps Lock, ALT and Insert.
Dots below character Insert OFF, Caps Lock OFF
Dots to the left of character Insert ON, Caps Lock OFF
Solid line below character Insert OFF, Caps Lock ON
Solid line to the left of character Insert ON, Caps Lock ON

To enter a BLUE character on the IR keyboard, press the ALT key followed by the required key. ALT can also be used to enter an extended character  from the character table below. To enter the ‘1/4’ character the code is B0+0C from the table’s corresponding row and column fields. Press ALT followed by the B key followed by the C key.

EDIT MESSAGES using the PC USB
Since the display installs itself on the PC as a Generic Text printer, this allows you to ‘print’ new messages from a text editor like Notepad, Wordpad, Word or from an email or web page. The existing messages in the display can be loaded into the text editor by opening a blank page in your editor, typing a few words related to the display,  then press CTRL ALT SHIFT X on the IR keyboard. The editor page will then fill up with the full contents of the display in a special format similar to the example below. You can edit the text, save it and then ‘print’ it back to the display.

EGU21 Reception Display     << these words typed in by you followed by ENTER to move the cursor to the next line
StartText1,1                           << start of messages from the display with case sensitive identifier, folder number and start message
C I “Welcome to Noritake” HH << commands (C)lear and (I)nstant write + text in double quotes. HH holds the message for 2 secs
L “Please sign the visitors book” O << command (L)eft scroll + scrolling text in double quotes. O causes it to scroll off.
E                                                                << command (E)nd of this message. The sequence is restarted at the beginning
+++                                                            << 2 or more plus symbols signify the end of messages for this folder

If you have problems editing the display, send your text sequence by email to slim@noritake-itron.com explaining what you expect to see. The display can also accept messages printed to folder 0 which are not stored and shown only once for instant alert and ‘ticker tape’ applications.
